Welcoming wax into my studio practice has been a dream I’ve had since my early days of art school. The ethereal quality of encaustic is a perfect pairing to the organic materials of fiber and natural pigments I currently explore in my mixed media and installation work today.
Spring 2023, I will be releasing my first encaustic series, ‘Leave It’, where I am blending various forms of botanical printing on fiber embedded in a soft neutral palette of beeswax. Work will be available to purchase in my shop May 24, 2023.

In pursuit of organic materials to sculpt, I first stumbled into abaca, a hemp harvested from a tree in the banana family. I had no idea how gorgeous it would be nor how much fun I would have shaping it.
As an accidental tourist in the land of fiber, it has become my substrate of choice as I’ve widened my quest for natural color. Foraged organic matter is brewed into subtly rich dyes that bring a perfectly harmonized color palette to my fiber practice today.

If photography was my gateway to the art world, painting was the secret vice kept hidden behind closed doors. Now I paint for all to see, windows wide open.
I find bliss working with bright colors, rich textures and exploring my love of geometric shapes, particularly the beloved square. I blame it on the decades of travel with my nose plastered to a car or plane window, ever fascinated with passing buildings or agricultural fields below. I’ve been breaking space into grids my whole life.

When I pulled my first ceramic cube from the saggar, I found the sculptor in my blood. I’ve been building ever since.
My love of natural materials is tempered by my fascination of highly manufactured mediums of resin and adhesives. In the end, I explore with the elements easily found at my fingertips, whether it is ice or resin, clay or tape. Through these sculptures, I’m called to the next installation.
